What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are used to modify the shape and shade of teeth. They can improve the appearance of teeth and even reduce or eliminate spacing between teeth.
Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are etched and then bonded to the enamel of the teeth. A small amount of tooth structure must be removed to make room for the porcelain veneer to fit over the tooth without making it look and feel bulky. The tooth preparation is limited to the enamel and usually involves only a few surfaces of the tooth.
Once bonded to your teeth, porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable. They are very strong and long-lasting with adequate oral hygiene home-care. Porcelain veneers can be an ideal solution for patients who want to improve the appearance of front teeth.
