What it is a dental implant?
Dental implants are titanium metal cylinders surgically placed in the jawbone to replace missing teeth. The bone integrates with the titanium implant through a process called osseo-integration.
Implants replace the roots of missing teeth and sit under the gum. A crown is then needed to be fabricated to attach and fit precisely on top of the implant. This is the component that is visible and above the gum line. State-of-the-art technology makes it possible for these implant-supported replacement teeth to look, feel and function like natural teeth.
Implants can support single crowns, large bridges and also full-arch dentures.
Dr. Loukaitis will consult with you on your specific needs and whether implants can provide the best solution. Treatment involves coordination with an office-referred Maxillofacial Surgeon for the placement of the implant in the bone. The stages of your treatment – from initial consultation to placement of your final restoration – will typically span across a six month period. During this entire time, you will be eating and functioning normally.

Process
Dr. Loukaitis work to ensure a customized outcome for each patient and always schedule an initial consultation before beginning treatment.
- Initial appointment includes consultation discussing your specific needs and whether implants can provide you the best solution. Implants require close coordination among a team of dental specialists. Dr. Loukaitis will refer you for consultation with a Maxillofacial Surgeon who will place the implant.
- In the meantime, Dr. Loukaitis will prepare a temporary bridge or denture that will allow you to eat and function normally following the implant placement (you may need to eat a soft diet immediately after the surgery).
- Following surgery, the implant gradually integrates with your jawbone over a period of six months.
- After the implant is strongly integrated with the bone, Dr. Loukaitis will begin the restorative phase of fabricating a bridge or denture.
